I’m jumping and leaping and praising God… remember the song from the Wee Sing Tape?  Well, that’s how we all felt when I took the brisket out of the roaster!!  I must be honest and say, that we all stood around the island stealing bites for quite a while before I cut it up and put it away.  Caroline kept saying, “Can’t dinner tomorrow hurry up and get here?!”  So, those of you considering the brisket… GO FOR IT!  You won’t regret it!

The aforementioned Brisket is in the roaster!!!! Last night we marinated it (I know she said 24-48hours, but I didn’t have that long) and it smelled oh, so good! I put it in the roaster and the wonderful smells are already wafting through the house. I’m using my roaster because I need my oven tonight, but the roaster will work wonderfully, as it always does. It is one of my favorite kitchen helpers! No, I won’t be bursting into songs of praise, though at times I do think about it.

For the last 5 years, my 5 daughters have shared one small bathroom. The biggest thorn in my flesh for that room has been all of the toiletries and hair products. Do you have any idea how many toiletries and hair products 5 girls can have. Trust me, it’s more than you can imagine! Well, I had enough! I have been contemplating a solution for a while and finally arrived at one. I went to Wal-Mart and bought some small drawers that are 8″ across and 6″ high. I put 6 of them in the cabinet and organized everything that goes under the sink, into the drawers. It worked as well as I had hoped, if not better. I don’t have a before picture, as it would be too terrifying to see, but here is the after picture.

This is my first WFMW post and I wanted to share something that really worked for me when I re-decorated my hall bath last year. We painted the walls a bright yellow to complement a shower curtain I had made out of a vintage looking western material. The material looks like it’s from the 50s with little boys and girls wearing western clothes, riding stick horses and sitting on fences. This seemed like a good theme since we live in Texas. When it came time to find artwork to match the room, I wasn’t quite sure what to do as I didn’t have much money to spend. When I was at the mall I began looking in the Texas Store and was looking at the greeting cards. I noticed that they had some really cute one, and each card only cost about $2. I bought several and then went to Wal-Mart and bought some really inexpensive 5×7 frames, and viola…. I had artwork!

Sometimes the simplest thing can have a real impact on your daily life. When we moved into this home 5 years ago, I wanted to upgrade my shower curtain hooks. I had always used the plastic, cheap hooks. You know, the kind that cost under $2 at Wal-Mart. Like these:

When I upgraded the first time I bought these:

Gene didn’t like these because they would flip upside down on him and not slide across the bar correctly. Maybe I should insert here that my dear husband suffers from OCD, and certain things just make him a little loopy. Shower curtain hooks not sliding correctly are one of the things that make him nuts. In the last year or so I replaced those hooks, with some more stylish, more expensive hooks similar to these:

This type of hook made him crazy because they would come unhooked and fall out, and they would hang up in the middle of the bar at the seam. After our trip to Little Rock, Gene commented how much he liked the shower curtains in the hotel room. He wanted me to find him a shower curtain that had the hooks built into it. I explained to him that I couldn’t find one like that anywhere… but alas, the boy was going nuts. Lest you think my husband a nit picker, let me tell you he is not. He doesn’t complain about anything… No dinner? No problem; he’ll eat cereal without complaint. If the house is a mess, he won’t say a word. So for him to be vocal about something like this, means it was really bothering him. We talked about it several times and I bought him some of the cheap-o circle hooks again. Tonight he put them up, and was like a little kid. He talked about how he opened and closed the curtain several times, just because it worked so well. Isn’t it amazing how something so simple can make your day?!
