I knew a lady who had 5 children, and her husband had been out of town frequently for a few weeks due to his job. I called one day to ask her if she would like me to cook them all dinner. I was planning on a specific night that was convenient for me and my schedule, but while on the phone I felt that I should ask her what night was best for HER. It turned out that a completely different night was MUCH more of a blessing for her, due to that particular day being such a hectic one. Even though that wasn't the best day for me on my part to cook a dinner for 7, it felt wonderful to know that I was truly being a blessing to her in the best possible way. I wouldn't have known that had I not asked.

One day Brandon and I were out of money - completely! He was looking for a job, but couldn't get one. Times were rough. A friend who we had just met told us to get a job application at this particular coffee shop. We drove over right away, to find that she had left for us a bouquet of roses, a walmart gift card, and a bible with dollar bills stuck all throughout the pages. That day I realized that she went "above and beyond" our need (which was money!). Not only did she give us money, but she also gave us "fun stuff", like the roses, and so forth. We didn't need those things, but it made the gift seem more heartfelt when it included more than just "the basic need". Oh, and by the way, on the card that was stuck in the bouquet of roses, it read "Love, Jesus". :) When I called her to thank her, I told her that apparently Jesus drinks coffee! hahaha.
